Common Questions
ACA Health Insurance Texas — FAQ
Who qualifies for ACA subsidies in Texas?
Most Texans earning between 100% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Level qualify for premium tax credits. A single person earning up to $58,320/year (2026) and a family of four earning up to $120,000/year may qualify. Many people earning above those limits still qualify under the American Rescue Plan extensions.
When can I enroll in an ACA plan?
Open Enrollment for 2026 plans runs November 1 — January 15. You may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you had a life event: lost job-based coverage, got married, had a baby, moved, or experienced other qualifying events. Call (940) 245-6001 to check if you qualify now.
What’s the difference between Bronze, Silver, and Gold?
Bronze = lower premium, higher out-of-pocket. Silver = medium premium, often the best value (especially with subsidies). Gold = higher premium, lower deductible. For most Texans with subsidies, Silver plans offer the best overall value — David can run the numbers for your situation.
Can I keep my current doctor?
Possibly yes — it depends on the plan’s network. When you compare plans on HealthSherpa, you can filter by whether your doctor is in-network. David can also help you verify this before you enroll.
What if I’m self-employed or a 1099 contractor?
ACA marketplace plans are perfect for self-employed Texans. Your net business income determines your subsidy eligibility. Many self-employed Texans get $0/month or very low-cost coverage. David specializes in finding the best options for self-employed clients.
